Trump Rallies Supporters In Phoenix Rally

President Trump is rallying his supporters at a campaign-style event in Phoenix. The president said he and his supporters are fully committed to fighting for their agenda, and won't stop until the job is done.

Trump repeated some of the themes from his address to the nation last night, including a call for unity in America.  He said every person deserves to live in respect, and loyalty to our nation requires loyalty to each other.

Trump addressed the furor over his first statement following the violence in Charlottesville more than a week ago. Trump said that the media is misrepresenting his words. To prove his point he took out a piece of paper and read his statement in which he condemned the forces of bigotry and hatred.  Trump accused the media of being "damned dishonest," and said they didn't report on his statements that racism is evil.

Trump called the "crooked media" the source of all division in the country.  He said they're bad people, they don't like the country, and are trying to take away America's history and heritage.  Trump accused the media of providing a platform for hate groups.  He said the Fox news show "Fox and Friends" is the exception, and has treated him very fairly.

Trump told the crowd he wasn't going to pardon controversial former Sheriff Joe Arpaio at the rally, but said "Sheriff Joe" is going to be just fine.  Trump remarked that the former Maricopa County sheriff was convicted for just doing his job.  Arpaio was convicted last month of criminal contempt of court for prolonging patrols targeting illegal immigrants after a state judge ordered in 2011 for him to stop.

The President used the rally to push the Senate to end the filibuster rule so his agenda can move forward. Trump stressed that some of the most important parts of healthcare reform need 60 votes to pass. He blamed a small number of Democrats for preventing anything from getting done.

Trump said a measure to repeal Obamacare failed by one vote.  He repeatedly hammered that "one vote" phrase, and said he wouldn't mention any names, despite the fact that Arizona Senator John McCain was considered to be that crucial swing vote.  He then hammered Arizona's junior senator Jeff Flake, again without mentioning his name, saying he's weak on borders and weak on crime.  Flake recently wrote a book in which he criticized the Trump administration and its effect on the Republican party.
