According to the Bay Area toll authority, about 16 million dollars in bridge tolls have gone unpaid.
Since toll takers have been removed from toll booths, the state in relying on license plate readers for drivers that don’t have FasTrak. It’s those drivers who ignore letters from the state to pay their toll. Right now the state is taking a softer approach at collecting tolls. But drivers who don’t pay up might not be able to get their auto registration renewed.
