The Cummimgs School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University has come up with a way to help people grieving over the loss of a pet.

Actually, it’s not new. The vet school has a nationwide hotline that offers help to people who’ve lost a pet, and it’s been in operation for 25 years! It’s run by students looking to improve their communications skills, and teaches how empathy will make them a better vet.

Most of the calls are for cats & dogs, but they deal with ALL kinds of pets. They deal with lots of sad kids who have lost pets, and the calls have doubled during the pandemic. Fourth year vet student Meghan Hanlon said “I’ve taken calls from people that I’ve talked to multiple times”.

The phone number is (508) 839-7966, and it’s in operation during the school year.

Jack & Carolyn talked about this on the Morning Breeze. Listen here:
