Jennifer Gray Thompson has a theory.
After a disaster, three types of people show up...people who want to sell you something, people who want to defraud you, and people who really want to help. Jennifer’s in that last category.
She established an organization called After the Fire. It helps people in communities destroyed by fires, and helps them cope with the impact of the destruction, and to plan for the future. After the Fire also helps victims navigate FEMA and Cal OES.
Even though she didn’t suffer any loss, Jennifer found herself awake in the middle of the night when the Tubbs fire surrounded her community in October of 2017. As she watched her neighbors suffer through the damage, it was then that she came up with the idea of an agency that could guide them through recovery, and After the Fire was born.
