There’s a surplus of “pocket pets” in the Bay Area, and everywhere else.
During the pandemic, lots of families adopted rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs…pets that kids could love and take care of while they were attending school at home. Well, now that the kids are back in the classroom, the pocket pets are being left on their own and being dumped at Bay Area shelters.
According to “Ratical” Rodent Rescue director Jenn Paz in Vallejo, they’ve had nearly 100 guinea pigs dumped at their door. Since November their staff of three is taking care of more than 130 pocket pets.
Animal shelters across California are facing the same predicament, and if you could adopt they’d appreciate it.
