California Bill Seeks To Ban Skittles, Hot Tamales and More...

A bill that's being considered in California seeks to ban the sale of Skittles, Hot Tamales candy, Dubble Bubble Gum and other treats.

The bill's authors, assembly members Jesse Gabriel and Buffy Wicks, say the products contain several chemicals that have been linked to cancer, damage to the immune system and behavioral issues in children. The chemicals include Red Dye Number 3, Titanium Dioxide, Potassium Bromate, Brominated Vegetable Oil and Propyl Paraben, according to the proposed law.

“Californians shouldn’t have to worry that the food they buy in their neighborhood grocery store might be full of dangerous additives or toxic chemicals,” Gabriel says. "This bill will correct for a concerning lack of federal oversight and help protect our kids, public health and the safety of our food supply.”
