Schools Crack Down On Cell Phones

Schools are implementing various strategies to prevent students from using their cell phones during the day, sparking debates about the effectiveness and wisdom of such bans.

Some schools have partnered with companies to use pouches that lock students' phones until the end of the day, while others are threatening punishments, including suspension, for phone use.

Educators are generally supportive of these measures, but parents and students have concerns about emergencies and the best way to address the issue.

One school district in Virginia is piloting a policy to stop cell phone usage, partnering with a company that creates magnetic pouches for phones. The success of the program will be evaluated based on feedback surveys, student achievement, and discipline data.
