AT&T will provide a $5 credit to customers affected by a recent network outage, which CEO John Stankey said was caused by an incorrect process during network expansion, not a cyber attack.

The outage disrupted cellphone service for tens of thousands of customers and affected 911 service in some areas.

AT&T is proactively applying the credit to impacted accounts, with the credit appearing within two billing cycles.

The company is working with business customers to address concerns and will offer options to prepaid customers who were affected.
