NASA's Voyager 1 probe, launched in 1977, has stopped sending usable data from interstellar space.

The spacecraft, which has made groundbreaking discoveries including active volcanoes and planetary rings, encountered a computer glitch in November that has hindered its ability to transmit data back to Earth.

The loss of Voyager 1 would mark the end of a historic mission that has inspired generations to explore the cosmos.

NASA is working to diagnose and address the issue to potentially revive the probe's communication capabilities.
