Disney is cracking down on password sharing for its streaming services, prompting users to pay for additional subscriptions for those outside their main household or risk disconnection.

The initiative, led by Disney chief Bob Iger, will launch in June and expand in September.

The company aims to achieve double-digit margins in its streaming business and expects profitability by the end of its 2024 fiscal year. Disney+ had 111.3 million subscribers, Hulu had 49.7 million, and ESPN+ had 25.2 million as of the end of 2023.

The crackdown on password sharing violators follows updated subscriber agreements that explicitly forbid sharing log-in details with non-household members.
