Des Moines to Allow Trick-or-Treating on Halloween for First Time Since 1938

  • Believe it or not, Des Moines, Iowa hasn't allowed trick-or-treating in over seven decades.
  • That is, until now.
  • This year, kids will be allowed to go door-to-door on Halloween with the rest of the country.
  • Before this, the town participated in "Beggars Night," the night before Halloween.
  • This was established as an alternative to trick-or-treating in an effort to cut down on what was called "hooliganism."
  • So, why the change?
  • Apparently, Des Moines had to cancel festivities due to heavy rain.
  • No word on if this will become a yearly tradition or if it's a one-time thing.
