Statue of Liberty Plunged into Darkness by Power Cut on Eve of International Women's Day! (PHOTOS)

The iconic Statue of Liberty was plunged into darkness on the evening of March 7, after a power outage caused its lighting system to fail. 

All that could be seen for hours were the monument's headlights and lamp, with the flood lighting returning later in the night. 

Some are crediting the event as a supportive nod to International Women's Day which is March 8th. Coincidence?
