Lots of people were wondering what the heck was happening on Saturday evening as eight fighter jets and a cargo plane flew over the Golden Gate bridge trailing red and blue behind them.

That was Patrouille de France — “French Patrol” — the Gallic version of the Thunderbirds aerobatic team. It’s on a seven-week tour “to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I and to reaffirm the historic ties between France and the United States.”
