Anna May Wong Will Be the First Asian American on US Currency

Early-20th-century actress Anny May Wong will make history as the first Asian-American to be featured on U.S. currency.

This week, the U.S. Mint will begin production on 300 million Wong coins as part of its American Women Quarters Program.

Wong was a trailblazing actress in the early days of Hollywood, launching her career in a time when many Asian actors were forced to play harmful stereotypes.

Other women to be featured on American Women Quarters include Maya Angelou, Sally Ride, Nina Otero-Warren, and Wilma Mankiller.
