Study Says Teens Want Less Sex in Movies and TV

  • According to a new study, teens want less sex in movies and TV shows. 
  • The UCLA Center for Scholars and Storytellers surveyed 1,500 people ages 10 to 24 and found that 63.5% wanted to see more friendships, and 62.4% felt that sex wasn't needed in story plots. 
  • "Teens and young adults want to see stories that more authentically reflect a full spectrum of nuanced relationships," says director of research Alisha J. Hines. 
  • This year's numbers are a big jump from last year's 51.5% surveyed who wanted to see more projects with people in platonic relationships, while 47.5% didn't seek movies with sex as a plot point. 
  • Regarding digital content, 38.8% of adolescents feel that YouTube is the "most authentic" social media platform, followed by TikTok and Instagram. X/Twitter was felt to be the least authentic
