Nicks shared that the inspiration for the album came during her time displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires. She hinted at songs that are not "airy-fairy" and are based on real memories of "fantastic men" from her life. The singer also referenced an encounter with Prince at the premiere of Purple Rain in 1984 as a pivotal moment that sparked the album's creation.
