Digital assistants by Amazon and Google are listening – possibly even when you think they aren't.
A consumer watchdog organization studied patent filings for both companies and found Alexa and Google Home could start recording more information than you realize.
The gadgets eavesdrop on everything from confidential conversations to your toilet flushing habits.
Future versions of gadgets like the Amazon Echo and Google Home will use this data to try and sell you products, it says.
The study found that digital assistants can be 'awake' even when users think they aren't listening.
For example, if you say "I love skiing," and the device hears it, don't be surprised if you are suddenly inundated with digital advertisements for anything having to do with skiing!
