The National Weather Service is warning that "one of the most substantial snowstorms" the northern Sierra Nevada has seen in recent years is on its way.
NWS officials expect the system will hit tonight with the heaviest snowfall at the beginning of the storm followed by spotty snow showers through Saturday morning and then clear out.
Grass Valley could receive 8 to 12 inches while Donner Pass over Highway 80 and Echo Pass on Highway 50 are forecast to receive 48 to 60 inches.
Elevations above 7,500 feet could see 50 to 80 inches!
