Subway sandwiches announced that they are going to shut about 500 MORE of its stores in the U.S. Last year, they closed more than 800 stores in the U.S. which dropped their total store count to over 25,000. They also closed restaurants in 2016.
Their CEO said their focus used to be solely on quantity of locations but now they want to focus on the quality of the location and will it reach as many people as possible based on where the individual stores are located.
He also said their biggest competitors now are gas stations that offer quick grab-and-go meals.
