New technology is coming to our license plates here in the Bay Area. We will soon be able to sport digital license plates on our cars.
You will have to buy the plates from car dealerships...not the DMV. The plates use the same computer technology as Kindle eBook readers. They will cost you almost $700 and about $7 a month.
If you choose to buy these digital plates, you can register your car electronically and you will no longer have to stick tags on your plates for registration.
If the car is stolen, the plate can tell the owner and police exactly where the car is or at least where the license plate is if it has been detached.
And, some businesses will use them as mini-billboards to advertise their products or services (the messages will only be displayed while the car is stopped).
