Big changes coming to the Miss America competition!
Effective immediately the swimsuit competition will go away.
Gretchen Carlson said they are now referring to it as a "competition" and not a "pageant." She said "We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance."
They said they want to make sure that all of the women competing are comfortable and they feel that taking away this part of the competition is the right thing to do.
Gretchen Carlson is the chairwoman of the Miss America board of directors. (She was also crowned Miss America in 1989)
