If you ride BART, you know that there has been a huge uptick of crime lately on the trains, but BART officials recently announced a $28 million comprehensive safety and security plan that they are putting into effect right away.
Some BART police will now work 6-day work weeks (10 hour days) to help with increased security, and you will also start to see a stepped up security presence at train stations as well.
They are also looking at raising barriers to 5 feet on fare gates to help with fare evasion and adding a second proof of payment team for evenings.
