Did you know that California doesn't (didn't) have a state sport? Not officially at least.
Thankfully, those days are over. Thanks to a bill signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday, surfing is now our official state sport!
This is a big deal for us as California (to people outside of our state) has been associated with volleyball, skiing, competitive swimming, tennis and mountain climbing.. As a matter of fact, one assemblyman really fought to have skateboarding as our official sport. Then someone quickly reminded him that skateboarding was inspired by surfing.
