German Shepherd found during Mendocino fire adopted by rescuer!

Patrick is a firefighter out of Utah who was called in to help fight the Mendocino fire. While he was fighting the fire, he saw a German shepherd hiding under a tree. Patrick grabbed the dog and he and his crew took him to Animal Services. He told the Animal Services group that if no one came forward and claimed the dog (named Mendo) he wanted to adopt him.

As it happened, Mendo's former owners didn't step forward, so, after being neutered, two volunteers from the Mendocino County Animal Shelter decided to take the dog to meet Patrick in Reno, Nevada on Saturday.

It turns out, the timing of the Mendo/Patrick reunion was good. The Draper City Fire Department lost one of their own, Battalion Chief Matt Burchett, in the Mendocino Complex Fire earlier this month. An animal shelter rep said: "We know Mendo will help them heal."
