Bay Area 'Christmas Crab' is in short supply this year due to the monster waves we've been having!
This is the time of year that tidal extremes go off the charts. In December and January the sun and moon reach their closest point to Earth. That will result in a tidal differential of over seven feet. The highest tide will occur along the Bay Area coast at 10:20 am Saturday, and again at 11:05 Sunday.
It's been too dangerous for fishermen to go out to sea to get the crab, thus there are less options for us to buy.
If you haven't pre-ordered by now, your odds of walking up and just buying crab the day of are probably pretty slim.
