In an effort to avoid a Camp Fire-like scenario, lawmakers have filed a handful of proposed laws.
One proposed law would allow county social services to give the contact information of elderly and disabled clients to first responders in the event of a public safety emergency.
Another bill would require the state Fire Marshall and California building standards commission to come up with new building standards for construction in high fire hazard areas by July 2020.
The same bill would also establish the state fire preparedness council, which would try to find ways to improve fire preparedness and prevention among blaze-prone parts of the state.
