While we were getting drenched in the Bay Area yesterday, the Sierra was getting pounded with snow…21 inches in Kingvale, 18 at Castle Peak, and TWO FEET at Mammoth Mountain. Enough snow fell that the National Weather Service has issued an avalanche warning for the mountains. Snow and 80 mph winds caused the closure of I-80 near Colfax.
