On Jan. 15, 2009, US Airways pilot Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger (from Danville!) shocked the world as he successfully landed a plane in the Hudson River just shortly after takeoff.
Both of the plane’s engines were determined to have been disabled by a bird strike.
Sully was hailed a hero after all 155 people on board the aircraft survived and were rescued from the cold water.
Sully, you are still a hero to us, even 10 years later!
