It was a cash frenzy on 880 in Hayward the other day when a wad of cash was tossed out of a car and onto the freeway.
The mystery of how wads of cash got strewn on the freeway created a frenzy of people to hop out on the road and collect the money.
Apparently the car was full of family members who said they had thrown $500 - all in $20 bills -- out of their car window on their way back from a funeral.
It was to honor the man who died, they said, not wanting to add much more. It's an "Oakland thing," a relative said.
Folks on the freeway didn't know where the money was coming from but dashcam video showed passersby snapping up the bills, left and right.
