The Department of Homeland Security sent a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom, telling him the DMV has not complied with the Department of Homeland Security’s regulations for issuing the new Real ID.
California DMV has been issuing a Real ID to anyone with one proof of address, however, the DHS requires two.
DMV will be sending letters to the 3 million people with a Real ID informing them they must show a second proof of address in order to have a valid ID.
Customers will be given the option of submitting the document online, through the mail or in a DMV field office.
