The piercing, shrieking of BART trains through the Transbay Tube has served as the inspiration for one of the eeriest sounds in video game history!
Glen Schofield, the creator and director of the beloved horror video game "Dead Space," said that a BART-riding employee was inspired by the Bay Area's public transit system to utilize the sound that BART makes in the Transbay Tube as the sound effect in one of the rooms in the game.
The sounds were used in what creators came to call "the BART train room." When players open the door, they're hit with the BART sound.
