Up until now it’s been difficult, if not impossible, for big-rig drivers, and other motorists to find a hot meal along California’s freeways because of restaurant closures.
Governor Newsom just suspended restrictions on selling food out of food trucks at rest areas during the pandemic. Federal highway officials also suspended restrictions. Food trucks are now operating along Interstates 80, 5, 10 and 15. Right now 17 food trucks are operating temporarily at state rest areas.
About 86 California rest areas have room for additional food trucks, and operators can apply on the Caltrans website. Long haul truckers, especially, are grateful for the new food options.
