Every year Cal Fire relies on hundreds of prison inmates to fight forest fires but, due to COVID-19, and virus outbreaks in jails, there are fewer inmates available to fight fires.
Inmates are sent several miles into the fires which are inaccessible to vehicles and aircraft so having a reduced number of inmates available will be a legit concern.
Social distancing is an issue too. Cal Fire will spread out base camps, do debriefings in separate locations, etc. Things will look a lot different all the way around.
