Marin County Will Issue Fines To People Who Violate COVID-19 Health Orders

On Tuesday the Marin County Board of Supervisors voted to add some teeth to existing shelter in place laws, and the vote was unanimous. Fines will be issued to people and businesses, and they take effect immediately.

Marin County is on the California Department of Health “watch list” because the number of COVID-19 cases is rising. Right now the number stands at more than 2,200 people. Earlier this month, the county rolled back restrictions on most indoor activities like indoor dining, for example. The curve in Marin County was once flattened. But because of boredom, or simply not caring, the number of cases is once again on the rise, according to Marin County Health Office Matt Willis.

How much will it cost individuals and businesses choosing not to comply with the rules? People violating the shelter in place order will face fines of between $25 and $500. Businesses violating health orders could face fines from $250 to $10,000.

Jack Kulp and Carolyn McArdle talked about it on the air! Listen below...
