If you own a ranch in the path of the CZU Lightning Complex Fire where’s the best safe haven for your animals? The Cow Palace!
The Daly City venue has become an evacuation site for nearly 300 animals. Mara McCain’s family owns a ranch in Woodside, and the Cow Palace is the saving grace for their animals. When she got the evacuation notice, she made arrangements to have them moved to safety. With the help from the volunteers at the San Mateo County Large Animal Evacuation Group, she was able to move 70 goats, three llamas, nine horses, and one barn cat to their safe, temporary home in the Cow Palace.
According to Cow Palace CEO Lori Marshal, the event center, which has sat empty since the pandemic began in March, has room for hundreds more animals, and they can all stay for free! There are about 17 fairground sites around the state that are being used for animal evacuations.
The Peninsula Humane Society is tracking the arrival of the animals.
