Crab season might be delayed again this year.
This week the California Department of Fish and Wildlife published new guidelines to prevent whales and sea turtles from getting entangled in fishing gear……..the kind of gear used by crab fishermen. The guidelines go into effect on November 1st. The new rules can limit or close crabbing in certain areas where there’s a greater chance of sea life getting entangled.
Scientists will survey whale migration from the air. If they determine that there are too many whales, and other wildlife, in the area, the season will be delayed.
