The California DMV has announced that they’re going to experiment with digital driver's licenses, allowing Californians to download the CA DMV Wallet, which lets you scan your CA license, which will then be available on your phone

The plan was announced back in May, and just opened up to the general public.

But only 1.5 million people can use it in this first phase.

According to SFGate, the digital license does not replace a physical one and is not being used yet by law enforcement. Read as: you still need to carry your license when driving.

Over two dozen airports accept the mobile license, including the San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles airports in California.
