We can all agree that something needs to be done about safety on BART and now a couple of BART board members have come up with an idea. BART is currently in the middle of hiring as many police officers as they can but in the meantime, these board members are suggesting that BART hire unarmed “ambassadors” to patrol the system…meaning citizens.
They do something similar on MUNI where staffers patrol buses around schools and BART thought this might be a good idea on their trains. Those MUNI staffers are unarmed, trained in conflict resolution techniques and are hired from the community.
