One thing that lots of parents and kids have learned over months of home schooling is that not all internet connections are equal. Some households don’t even have internet access. There’s an area on the east side of San Jose where the kids have to do their homework in the parking lots of fast-food restaurants because they don’t have internet at home.
The city of San Jose has gotten together with AT&T to fix that. They’re setting 11,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in various locations around the city that will provide free high-speed internet access. As many as 100,000 residents don’t have broadband at home right now.
