The city of Palo Alto is kicking around the idea of a COVID tax added to your restaurant tab.
It would amount to about 10%, and it would help out struggling eateries in town. All restaurants are incurring extra expenses for things like wipes and disinfectants, and other cleaning supplies. Add that to the fact that they’re serving far fewer diners than before the pandemic, and the owners have real troubles. One popular restaurant, The Patio, reports going from over 200 customers a day to 26.
