Grant Newnom is a South Bay firefighter whose 48-hour shift turned into 60-hour shift when he got held over fighting more fires. He finished up his shift around 9 Sunday night, and started his drive back home to Napa. That’s when his girlfriend called to let him know that the fire in Santa Rosa was threatening her parents’ home. Newnom drove to their house, and immediately began clearing vegetation from their home using gear that he already had in his car. He cleared brush, cut down trees…doing everything he could to save the house, and it worked.
