Wait, what? Dolly Parton turned down Elvis?
It’s true. It was one of the most popular songs Dolly has written, “I Will Always Love You”, one of Whitney Houston’s biggest hits. Well, The King’s manager Colonel Tom Parker approached Dolly and asked if Elvis could record her song, but there was a snag. If Elvis recorded the song, Parker wanted half the publishing rights. Dolly said forget it. She wanted to reserve half the publishing rights for her family, so it never happened. Dolly said she cried all night because she imagined Elvis singing that song.
