A warning in the Bay Area for king tides started this past Sunday and it continues through the end of the day Tuesday.
The tides were so big on Monday that Pier 14 along the Embarcadero in San Francisco had to close! The tides are 1 to 2 feet higher than your standard tide and you definitely don’t want to get caught up in them.
King tides happen when the sun, moon and earth align and when the moon is in its closest position to the earth. Today is the last day as far as the warnings go but the tides will return again in late January. Just be extra aware today if you are thinking of going to the beach for any reason or walking along the Embarcadero in the city.
