The commercial crabbing fleet and wholesalers have finally reached a price agreement, knocking down the final barrier to the opening of dungeness crab season.
Commercial crab season was supposed to start November 15th, but because whales were still feeding in the fishing grounds, the start of the season was put off for more than 5 weeks. Then, the wholesalers and the fisherman couldn’t agree on a price. Everything’s settled, wholesalers and the fishermen settled on $2.75 a pound..about 30 cents less than what the crabbers were asking.
So now there should be fresh crab in stores by Thursday.
