You might say that Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is a hero in Houston.
He owns the Gallery Furniture stores in the area. The freezing temperatures, power outages and water shortages forced many locals out of their homes, looking for shelter. Well, Jim opened his stores to people seeking shelter, water and a warm place to stay.
People were sleeping on his beds, sofas and love seats in his showrooms. And this isn’t the first time he’s done this. In 2017 he opened his stores to people who needed shelter during Hurricane Harvey, then again when Tropical Storm Imelda forced residents out of their Houston homes in 2019.
