When the pandemic hit almost a year ago, many authorities thought that empty moments would result in a baby boom in December. Well, it didn’t happen. In fact, there was a decline in the birth rate.
Of the 29 states that have reported their data, there was an average 7% decline in the birth rate since the pandemic started. In California there was a 10% drop in the birthrate. In Hawaii there was a whopping 30% decline in the birthrate in December during the pandemic.
December’s birthrate drop was the steepest since 1964. Many say that the decrease can be credited with the stress of having to do with pandemic.
