The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department announced a bit of good news yesterday.
The April 15 tax filing deadline has been postponed to Monday May 17th. If you owe money to the IRS, you can delay making that payment until May 17th as well. If you pay estimated quarterly taxes, the deadline for that payment is still April 15th.
The deadline extension not only helps tax payers and preparers, it helps the IRS as well, which is short staffed and still working on last year’s backlog.
The deadline extension also applies to California income tax returns.
