Governor Newsom has taken some proactive steps to keep ahead of the upcoming fire season.
He authorized the hiring of almost 14 hundred new fire fighters who’ll report to Cal Fire. These are seasonal jobs that will stay on through June 30th. The unusually dry winter and lack of snow in the Sierra have created a fire danger similar to last year. Last year 4% of the state’s land burned, more than 10 thousand buildings were destroyed, and 33 people were killed.
