The drought is affecting one of California’s most important crops.
The water crisis could take a heavy toll on our $6 billion almond industry. California produces 80% of the world’s almonds, and ALL of the almonds consumed in the US. Last year California cranked out more than 3 billion pounds of almonds.
As water becomes more and more scarce, many growers are abandoning their almond orchards, and you know what that means. A smaller supply almost always means a price hike.
It takes almost 2 thousand gallons of water to produce a pound of almonds!
