Stockton police officer Mark Afanasev knows the meaning of “thinking on your feet.”
The seven year police veteran saw a car crash into a pole and burst into flames. That’s when his training kicked in. He said “The only thing I could think of, these people are going to burn if I don’t help them.”
A man who was in the car was able to get out, but officer Afanasev ran into the flames to rescue the woman, while Afanasev’s wife called 911.
Mark said “I can live with a couple of burns or whatever injuries I might get. I wouldn’t be able to live with standing by knowing that I could have helped somebody and now they are gone.”
